Management Development Series Focus Group: Supervisors Who Have Attended at Least One Session

Tuesday, 4/2, 9:00 am-10:00 am

Since 2022, the Management Development Committee has offered a series of training sessions designed for employees who supervise but open to all regular employees. As part of assessing this effort, the Management Development Committee is hosting a focus group for supervisors who have attended at least one of our past sessions. The goals of the focus group session are to evaluate overall satisfaction, uncover implementation challenges, gather recommendations for future improvements, identify knowledge or skill gaps, and establish ongoing collaboration for series enhancement. This feedback will be used by the Management Development Committee, Deans’ Office, and Library Administration to inform the planning for the offerings being developed for the coming year.  Your perspective is important for us to thoughtfully assess and purposefully improve the program.

Attendees may access the session through Zoom using this information:

Members of the Management Development Committee will facilitate the session and ask these questions (subject to change based on participant responses and time permitting):

  • Look at the sessions that have been offered in the Management Development Series. As you look at the topics, can you think of an example of how you’ve implemented new practices into your supervisory work based on things you encountered in the training series?
  • Sessions for employees who supervise are currently voluntary and optional.  How do you feel about that approach Is it the right one, or should we think about doing something different?
  • We’ve had a mix of in-house and external presenters.  What’s been good about this, and what could be improved?
  • Some of the sessions have been interactive, some make time for people to practice, and some are more focused on information sharing. Have we struck the right balance with this in relation to the topics?
  • The MDS sessions are often 60 to 90 minutes long and often involve a combination of information delivery and time for comments and questions. How has this approach felt to you?  How has this time commitment worked for you?
  • We have made most of our training sessions available online after they take place. If you’ve used this aspect of our series, what was that like?
  • Are there other supports you’d like to see in place for employees who supervise aside from things like the MDS?
  • Is there anything else you like to share with us about the MDS or about working in a supervisory role in the library?
