Jake Schraga
The Sustainable Mind Project

Jake Schraga (BA’ 24) is a Penny W. Stamps School of Art & Design student pursuing a minor in Business and a captain of the Michigan Rock Climbing Team. He also works as a creative in the Marketing and Communications Department for Stamps. Jake is from the Bay Area, California and the oldest of six children. The Sustainable Mind Project aims to promote sustainable mental health within the academic community, allowing individuals to self-assess and maintain balanced mental states to healthily pursue academic goals. This project is pivotal in cultivating a conducive learning environment, spreading awareness about sustainable mental well-being, and providing accessible means to achieve mental balance, which is crucial for holistic development within the university setting. The project uniquely integrates art and mental health, featuring a short animation and painted pieces. Every week for five weeks, Jake displays 2 painted frames in the A&AB “Street Gallery.” Each frame has a QR code that links to advice or tasks aiming to either stimulate or calm the mind, creating an immersive, reflective experience for viewers. Guided by Associate Professor John Marshall, Ph.D., the project concludes with a collaborative exhibition, displaying each frame and the completed animation, and fostering dialogue on mental health.

Candace Jung, Kaitlyn Ma
Queer of Color Theory as a Mode of Resistance

Our organization, Warp at Michigan, was formed to provide spaces and resources for queer POC on campus to build community and nurture their creativity. We will host weekly workshops on different mediums and open studio socials throughout the semester, where members can explore and create art projects, in hopes of sparking conversation, community, and collaboration within the queer POC community. The culmination of our members’ projects will be displayed as an art exhibition at the end of the fall semester. . Additionally, the event will be free of charge and open to the general public in hopes of creating an accessible way of uplifting underrepresented voices on campus.
