Naloxone Training

In a one-hour in-person workshop, presented by our own Logan Fortino from the U-M Library Train-the-Trainer Program, library employees will partake in a Naloxone training session. This comprehensive overdose response workshop from OPEN Michigan gives participants the confidence and practical skills to respond to an opioid overdose using Naloxone. There will be both a PowerPoint presentation and a hands-on portion; and it will be held in Hatcher Library North – Gallery Lab, Room  100H. 

 By the end of this training session, attendees will:

• Be able to describe what opioids are and know the risk factors that contribute to an opioid overdose.
• Gain familiarity with detecting the signs and symptoms of an opioid overdose.
• Learn how to respond to an overdose using Naloxone.
• Understand the Michigan legislature around Naloxone.

When someone is experiencing an overdose, every second matters.  Knowing what to do – and quickly – can help save a life and give a person another opportunity for recovery.  

This training is a part of the Library’s Safety Training Program and supports the following Safety Program Learning Outcomes in the areas of Crisis Evaluation and Response and Medical Response / First Aid:

• #10 Employees will recognize and respond to medical emergencies…
• #19 Employees will understand how to identify a potential overdose condition.
• #20 Employees will understand how to respond to a potential overdose condition with naloxone administration.

*Please note that partaking in Naloxone Training will add more tools in your safety toolbox for recognizing and responding to medical emergencies. It does not, however, impose a requirement to administer Naloxone in a real-life emergency.
