In Fall 2025 the University released a new standard practice guide (SPG) on Covered Visitors. Covered visitors are individuals from outside the University of Michigan invited by sponsoring units or employees to engage with the university’s non-public resources for a period from 14 days to two years. Key provisions of the SPG go into effect on June 30.
This training session will go over elements of the SPG and colleagues’ required actions for sponsoring covered visitors. Topics for session will include:
- What led to the new SPG
- Definitions of terms like “covered visitor” and “non-public resources.”
- Key roles in the University Library
- Expectation of sponsoring units
- Resources for support
Attendees of the live session will have opportunities to ask questions.
Attending this training session or watching a recording is required for any employee who plans to sponsor an individual from outside U-M for access to non-public resources. The main presentation of the session will be recorded, but the question and answer portion will not be recorded. Please contact the Library Human Resources team at libhumres@umich.edu with any questions.
