Pronouns 101: A workshop with the U-M Spectrum Center

Thursday, 7/31, 2:00 pm-4:00 pm
Join us for this 2-hour workshop on the basics of pronouns and their usage. Participants will have the chance to practice using different sets of pronouns and work on bystander intervention skills.  While it isn’t required, the Spectrum Center highly recommends that participants complete the following webcourse prior to attending the workshop: Introduction to LGBTQIA2S+ Communities and Identities. This course covers a variety of foundational topics about LGBTQIA2S+ people, many of which Pronouns 101 does not include given its specific scope.

Through this workshop, participants will:

  • Learn what pronouns are and be able to share why they are important in their own words;
  • Identify the correct pronouns in various sentence structures;
  • Practice different methods of addressing harm using a tool called scripting (coined by author Ritu Bhasin);
  • Use an action planning resource to develop one tangible, actionable goal related to their increased inclusivity around pronouns.

More information about the Spectrum Center is available here.
