American Red Cross First Aid Training

Wednesday, 10/21, 3:00 pm-4:30 pm

In a 90-minute in-person workshop, presented by our own Jake Smith from the U-M Library Train-the-Trainer Program, library employees will partake in an American Red Cross First Aid training session. The course covers First Aid, CPR, and AED training; and it equips attendees to recognize and care for a variety of first aid, breathing, and cardiac emergencies. The workshop includes both a PowerPoint presentation and a hands-on portion; and it will be held in Hatcher Library North – Gallery Lab Room  100H. There will also be pre-work assigned before the workshop, which will take approximately 2 hours to complete.

By the end of this training session, attendees will:

    • Gain familiarity with recognizing and caring for a variety of first aid, breathing, and cardiac emergencies.
    • Partake in a hands-on opportunity to practice using an AED machine and to practice performing CPR on a training torso.
    • Gain knowledge in assessing emergency situations.

This First Aid training workshop provides lifesaving knowledge – as well as builds confidence, readiness, and real-life skills. It is a part of the Library’s Safety Training Program and supports the following Safety Program Learning Outcomes related to Crisis Evaluation and Response and Medical Response/First Aid:

    • #10 Employees will recognize and respond to medical emergencies.
    • #12 Employees will make appropriate contact decisions (colleague, supervisor, emergency support services) based on situation assessment.
    • #25 Employees will be able to recognize and care for a variety of first aid breathing and cardiac emergencies.
    • #26 Employees will be able to recognize cardiac emergencies and understand AED interventions.

*Please note that partaking in First Aid Training will add more tools in your safety toolbox for recognizing and responding to medical emergencies. It does not, however, impose a requirement to perform first aid or CPR, or to use an AED machine, in a real-life emergency.

Please register in advance! Thank you!
