In a 90-minute in-person workshop presented by the U-M Division of Public Safety and Security (DPSS), interested library employees will partake in an American College of Surgeons (ACS) course designed to prepare and educate them on how to recognize and respond to life-threatening bleeding. The presentation will take place in Hatcher North Gallery Lab – Room 100H.
By the end of this training session, attendees will:
- Learn how to recognize life-threatening bleeding.
- Gain familiarity with acting quickly and effectively to control this bleeding with three quick techniques.
- Have had an opportunity to practice the bleeding control actions, with instructor input.
- Be reminded of University resources for help in processing these types of situations – including processing the content of this course.
This Stop the Bleed training workshop provides lifesaving knowledge – as well as builds confidence, readiness, and real-life skills. It is a part of the Library’s Safety Training Program and supports the following Safety Program Learning Outcomes related to Life Safety and Medical Response/First Aid. This course could empower anyone to make a life-or-death difference when a bleeding emergency happens – either by performing the techniques themselves or by knowing and sharing the techniques for someone else to put them into action.
*Please note that partaking in Stop the Bleed Training will add more tools in your safety toolbox for recognizing and responding to medical emergencies. It does not, however, impose a requirement to perform these techniques in a real-life emergency.
