Responding to an Active Attacker Training

In a 60-minute in-person workshop presented by Police Officer Anthony Ricco from the Community Engagement Unit of the U-M Division of Public Safety and Security (DPSS), library employees will partake in a training designed to prepare and educate them on how to respond to and prevent an active attacker incident. The presentation will take place in Hatcher North Gallery Lab – Room 100H. By the end of this training session, attendees will:

• Gain familiarity with the “Run – Hide – Fight” response, and the critical thinking needed to develop a personal strategy for making decisions in a situation such as an active attacker.
• Gain familiarity with the pre-indicators of someone planning or contemplating an attack, and the importance of reporting this information to the appropriate authorities to prevent an attack.
• Be reminded of University resources for help in processing these types of situations – including processing the content of this course.

This training supports the Library’s programmatic safety learning outcomes related to life safety, Program Learning Outcome 1.5.1 – “Employees will understand the Run, Hide, Fight model of responses to active assailant situations.”
