M-Write

M-Write, a project funded by the Third Century Initiative, focuses on implementing writing-to- learn pedagogies in large-enrollment courses in multiple departments in LSA and the College of Engineering.

Although M-Write is tailored to meet the goals of individual faculty members, the general process follows a similar plan. First, faculty members identify key concepts that they want students to learn in the course and M-Write staff work with the faculty member to develop prompts that require students to write about these key concepts. The key concepts are those for which students often have difficulty developing deep conceptual understanding.

With the assistance of Writing Fellows trained by Sweetland, students in the M-Write course write in response to the prompt, participate in automated peer review, and revise their original draft in response to the peer review.
