Strategies for Forming and Managing Quality Groups – Made Easier with the Right Tool

Thursday, 8/14, 10:00 am-11:00 am

This presentation offers faculty practical strategies for forming and managing student groups. We will discuss common challenges faced by both students and instructors, such as unequal effort, unfair grading, and confusion around group assignments. It explores different methods of group formation; self-selected, randomly assigned, and instructor-assigned, highlighting when and why each approach is appropriate and how technology can support these decisions. There will be a brief demonstration of how the tool Peerceptiv (available to LSA instructors) can help instructors manage groups at scale. The goal is to help instructors create fair, balanced, and effective teams while reducing administrative burden and improving student outcomes.
