Build a Text Block: Sewing Over Tapes

Wednesday, 6/24, 12:00 pm-2:00 pm

Join us for a hands-on introduction to sewing page gatherings, or “signatures,” over tapes to create a simple text block. Sewing book signatures over fabric tapes is a classic bookbinding technique that uses strips of cotton or linen as structural supports to sew folded groups of pages together.

This mid-level bookbinding workshop is a great next step for beginners who are ready to build their skills. You’ll learn foundational techniques used in some exposed-sewing bindings; including making a kettle stitch to transition to the next signature.

We’ll finish by adding a basic soft cover, creating the look of a simple, unadorned ledger binding.

Two class times, sponsored by the Book Arts Studio, are available, but you only need to register for one. Please note that you will likely need the full 2 hours to complete your project.
